Field.3 // Installation, 2023
Field.3 is a spatial audiovisual installation by Dieter Vandoren and Mariska de Groot. A network of seven architectonic units, reminiscent of both ancient and futuristic mythical sites, creates a pulsating field of shimmer and glow. Though each unit stands independently in the space, they are invisibly connected, exchanging signals like an underground web of roots or mycelium.
Each unit contains an optical fiber and a sound transducer, both channeling the same root signal through their respective modalities: light and sound. This signal flows through the network like an organic current, its amplitude shifting at each node, causing the system to synchronize, drift apart, fragment, and reconnect over time.
The resulting interplay of light and sound pulsations shapes an immersive sensory space where rhythms evolve and patterns emerge. As visitors navigate the installation, they become part of an unseen yet deeply interconnected system, suspended in a state beyond time.
